Role and Facility Information

The Central Interior Rural PCN has a unique opportunity for .5 FTE physician interested in Indigenous Health. Providing both in person and virtual primary health care to residents living in the Tsilhqot’in Nation communities in the Williams Lake area.

Community-based primary care services are provided by a team of visiting physicians and nurse practitioners who are supported by the local Health Centre staff and other visiting health care providers. Local teams consist of clerical/MOA/reception staff (varies by community), RNs, LPNs, Home Care Assistants and Alcohol & Drug Counsellors. Other visiting members of the health care team include physiotherapists, MH Counsellors and a dietician. Dental care is offered in Tl’etinqox-tin once a month by the visiting dentist, who also sees clients from the other communities. Team based care and collaboration is supported through utilization of the community-based EMR.

Both in-person and virtual services will be extended to all 6 Tsilhqot’in Nation communities of Tl’etinqox-tin (Anaham), Yunesit’in (Stone), Tl’esqox (Toosey), Tsi Del Del (Redstone), Xeni Gwet’in (Nemiah) and ?Esdilagh (Alexandria). Primary care provider visits will be conducted in accordance with an agreed upon schedule.

Supports for practice in Williams Lake
Cariboo Memorial Hospital is the 31-bed hospital in Williams Lake, which hosts an emergency department, an intensive care unit, operating rooms, medical-surgical and obstetrical units, and ambulatory care services. Other services include stress testing, lab and diagnostic imaging (including echo and CT scanning), out-patient hemodialysis and a five-bed psychiatric crisis stabilization unit. There is 24-hour general surgery and obstetrical specialist coverage, full-time radiology, a pediatric specialist as well as local adult and pediatric psychiatrists. Ophthalmology, Rheumatology, Urology and Orthopedic specialists visit regularly to provide services locally.
