Role and Facility Information
Richmond is a diverse ‘young’ city thriving with families in all stages of life. It is located just south of Vancouver, BC. Richmond Early Childhood Mental Health Program (RECMHP) is located in the Child Health Centre of Richmond Hospital. It is co-located with Pediatrics and Maternity. RECMHP is a community-based public mental health service for children 0 to 6 years of age with significant emotional and/or behavioural problems. Assessments and evidence-informed largely psychotherapeutic treatments are provided to children in conjunction with their families. A good knowledge of child relational/developmental/psycho therapeutic theory and practice is essential. Prescription and monitoring of medications may be provided as needed. Each clinician assesses and treats children on their caseload and may consult other team members as indicated. Collaboration with other community service providers is essential. RECHMP team members function together as a “Working Group”, with an expectancy to collaborate reflectively.
RECMHP is closely linked to the UBC Faculty of Medicine, and innovates and collaborates in educational and research projects.
The psychiatrists may also be involved in the planning, implementation and evaluation of new programs and will participate in the training and education of medical students, residents and other allied health professionals. Opportunities may exist for research projects and group work.
All physicians working in the Richmond Department of Psychiatry are required to participate in the on-call roster.

As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks. For all new hires and appointments to Vancouver Coastal Health, you will be asked to provide this information as part of the onboarding process.
