Role and Facility Information

Richmond is a diverse ‘young’ city thriving with families in all stages of life. It is located just south of Vancouver, BC. The Richmond School Program is located on Blundell Road behind Blundell Elementary School in Richmond. Assessments and evidence-informed treatments are provided to children in conjunction with their families as well as school-based personnel. A good knowledge of child relational/developmental/psycho therapeutic theory and practice is essential. Prescription and monitoring of medications will be provided as needed. Collaboration with other community service providers, such as teachers and school counsellors, is essential. RSP team members function together as a “Working Group”, with an expectancy to collaborate reflectively.

RSP is closely linked to the UBC Faculty of Medicine, and innovates and collaborates in educational and research projects.

The psychiatrists may also be involved in the planning, implementation and evaluation of new programs and will participate in the training and education of medical students, residents and other allied health professionals. Opportunities may exist for research projects and group work.

All physicians working in the Richmond Department of Psychiatry are required to participate in the on-call roster.

The physician will be privileged in the Department of Psychiatry. The physician will report to the Medical Lead for Infant, Child & Youth, and the Head and Medical Director, Department of Psychiatry, VCH-Richmond Mental Health and Substance Use. Must have a Medical Degree and be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia. Must hold specialist qualifications in psychiatry from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and have completed two full years of training in Child & Adolescent psychiatry. Eligibility for a clinical faculty appointment with the University of British Columbia, Faculty of Medicine is ideal. Candidates must meet credentialing requirements of Vancouver Coastal Health. Additionally, the candidate should have a demonstrated ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary health team, a commitment to participate in new methods in health improvement and care delivery, and experience working in child psychiatry.
