Role and Facility Information

A Rare Opportunity to Step Directly into a Full-Scope Family Practice – Maple Ridge BC

An established family physician at our clinic will be relocating out of the area at the end of March and will not be retaining her patient panel. This creates a unique opportunity for a new graduating physician (or a practice ready physician - new to the area) to step immediately into a thriving, full primary care practice without the need to build a panel from scratch.

This opportunity is particularly timely, as the salaried “New-to-Practice” contracts are no longer being offered within Fraser Health Authority. Many new physicians report challenges attaching enough patients to establish a sustainable practice, along with financial strain under the current LFP payment model. This would not be the case with this opportunity.

This position is also open to locum physicians. If a permanent replacement is not immediately secured, the Medical Clinic will provide continuity of care through structured locum coverage. Even once a permanent physician is in place, locum opportunities may remain available to support the clinic’s six-family-physician team.

What Makes This Opportunity Exceptional

Established Patient Panel
• Approximately 1,500 active patients with 1,200 routinely seen within the last year
• Typical daily volume of 25–30 patients
Immediate Practice Stability
• Fully built, robust patient panel
• Comprehensive documentation and histories already in place, allowing for a smooth and efficient onboarding process

Teaching & Learning Environment

• Teaching practice with Dr. Karmali, Clinical Instructor
• Hosts R1, R2, medical students, and NP students
• Preferred site for the Teaching Primary Care Innovation Collaborative (TPCLC) program

Starting practice within a teaching-focused clinic offers important advantages for new graduates and practice ready physicians that might be new to the area, including:
• Ongoing mentorship and clinical support during the transition and early years of independent practice
• Continued skill refinement and clinical confidence-building through learner engagement
• Exposure to collaborative, evidence-informed approaches aligned with modern team-based primary care models
The Teaching Primary Care Innovation Collaborative (TPCLC) supports the integration of interprofessional, team-based care into community family practices and reflects a commitment to high-quality, patient-centred primary care.

Modern, Fully Integrated Clinic Infrastructure

The Medical Clinic is a modern facility designed to support efficient, sustainable, patient centric primary care practice:

Fully integrated EMR with MedDialog and direct email connection
• AI medical scribe support
• Online patient booking and digital workflows

Large, Interprofessional Care Team

Physicians are supported by a comprehensive, collaborative care team, including:
• 6 Family Physicians
• Advanced Medical Office Assistants (MOAs)
• Registered Nurse in Practice
• Consulting Psychiatrist
• Prescribing Pharmacy on site
• Clinical Pharmacist providing consultation for complex polypharmacy cases
• Rotating Diabetes Nurse Educator
• Rotating Respiratory Therapist providing assessment and treatment planning for COPD and asthmatic patients

This team-based structure allows physicians to practice at full scope while sharing care for complex patients and reducing administrative and clinical burden.

Seamless Transition & Flexible Start
• Opportunity to begin as early as mid-March
• Alternatively, can seek to cover care via locum coverage until July 1, allowing flexibility for graduates completing training in June or physician transition to the area.

• Ensures continuity of care and a well-supported transition into practice

Aesthetics Practice Opportunity (Optional)

Dr. Karmali also operates an associate aesthetics clinic, supported by a Medical Aesthetic Practitioner. Interested physicians may choose to expand or diversify their scope in this area in the future.

Collaborative, Supportive Practice Culture

We pride ourselves on a collegial, team-based environment with strong operational and clinical support — allowing physicians to focus on patient care rather than administrative burden.

This opportunity is time-sensitive and will be filled on a first-come, best-fit basis.
We encourage interested residents/or practice ready physicians to reach out directly to Fraser Medical Clinic as soon as possible to express interest, ask questions, or arrange a confidential conversation. Early engagement will allow us to discuss start-date flexibility, transition planning, and practice fit in greater detail.
