Role and Facility Information
Medical Clinic on Gabriola Island is a community owned, primary care home, looking for two full service family doctors to join a team of two family physicians and one Nurse Practitioner.
We provide primary and urgent care for Gabriola Island, a beautiful gulf island community of 4500 people. We all love what we do and the community where we do it. Our clinic team includes a mental health nurse, community social worker, and home and community nursing co-located in our building. We work as a very effective team. We also host visiting specialists including plastic surgery, psychiatry and general surgery.
We are fully supported by our community in all we do, and have been awarded the 2018 Rural BC Community Award for our innovative and collaborative approach to local healthcare issues. We have an active Chapter of the Rural and Remote Division of Family practice and have good working relationships with Island Health.
Community Information
Gabriola Island, the second largest of the Canadian Gulf Islands, is approximately 5,256 hectares (or 12,987 acres) and has a resident population of approximately 5000 with many more in the summer. There are frequent ferry (www.bcferries.com) and float plane (https://www.gulfislandseaplanes.com) services to Nanaimo, Victoria and Vancouver.
Gabriola Island is often called “The Island of the Arts”, with no shortage of talented artists, performers and writers. Surrounded by the Salish Sea and all its beauty, but also a short distance from Nanaimo and Vancouver, Gabriola offers rural living with great access to larger centers. We have a wonderful elementary school, amazing fishing and sailing, and a never-ending network of trails for hiking and biking. Children here have safety and freedom, growing up in the woods and on the shores.
If you are interested in community health, rural medicine, a wonderful work environment and a beautiful setting, look no further. Come spend a day with us to see if this is the practice for you!
