Role and Facility Information

Come work as a Family Practitioner, Addiction Medicine with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)!

Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a position with 0.2 FTE minimum (2 sessions/week) or up to 0.8 FTE maximum in Addiction Medicine to cover clinic work which is part of our continuum of services for clients seeking assistance for mental health and substance use disorders.

This position will be at one or more of the following sites in Vancouver, where is negotiable:

South MHSU

Raven Song MHSU

Grandview Woodlands MHSU

The physician will work within a team that includes nurses, social workers and other physicians, including psychiatrists.

Skills in addiction medicine including medical assessment, withdrawal management, co-occurring disorders, pain management and opioid agonist treatment are expected assets.

The physician will adhere to the guidelines, policies and procedures set forth by the organization to include (but not limited to): harm reduction, trauma informed and culturally safe practice.

The physician will foster a collaborative inter-professional practice environment that enhances client-centred services within the associated sites/services. The physician works within a self-directed team of physicians and other inter-professional colleagues to achieve excellence in client-centred care.

Qualifications:

A Medical Degree and eligibility for licensure, in good standing, with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia. Current Canadian Medical Protection Association, or equivalent, coverage. Eligibility for a faculty appointment with the University of British Columbia, School of Medicine and participation in educational activities is ideal. If not already a member, become a member of the the Medical Staff of Vancouver Coastal Health. In addition, the candidate should have:

• Certification in Addiction Medicine or an eligibility and willingness to pursue certification

• Experience in prescribing the range of opioid agonist treatment (OAT)

• A demonstrated ability working as a member of an interprofessional health care team

• A commitment to participate in new methods in health improvement and care delivery, including shared care

The physician will report to the medical coordinator at the site, and to the Medical Director of MHSU services, Vancouver Community.
