Role and Facility Information

Come work as Psychiatrist with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)!

At the Access and Assessment Centre, we are honoured to provide an accessible, integrated, interdisciplinary coordinated continuum of care as a single point of service access for adults in Vancouver. As psychiatrists, we conduct comprehensive assessments utilizing non-urgent, urgent and emergency inventions with the aims of early service provision and fostering stability in the community. We are a group of experienced physicians with a keen desire to help others and a variety of interest areas and speciality backgrounds.

In accordance with the standards of practice and the established vision and values of Vancouver Coastal Health, the psychiatrist who accepts this position will evaluate, diagnose and provide state-of-the-art, general adult outpatient & concurrent disorders treatment for patients of ages 18 and up suffering from combination of addiction and other psychiatric disorders.

The psychiatrist will work in collaboration with other physicians, psychologists, nurses, registered clinical counselors, social workers, occupational therapists, psychiatry residents, medial students, patients and their families to provide comprehensive clinical care within our treatment team. The psychiatrist will serve as a resource in dealing with mental health and addiction issues and symptom management with a strong knowledge base in psychopharmacology & psychotherapy.
The psychiatrist will participate in the training and education of UBC medical students, residents and other allied health professionals. Active participation in academic activities and clinical care is expected. The psychiatrist should have a good knowledge of Community resources.

All physicians are required to participate in an on-call rota which is not onerous.

Service Description:
The psychiatrist will work as part of our strong and cohesive Access and Assessment Centre team located within the Joseph & Rosalie Segal Family Health Centre providing initial psychiatric assessments, consultations, medication review, referral to group psychotherapy & time limited individual psychotherapy. Excellence in clinical care will be offered based on the best available evidence with treatment tailored to each person’s individual needs. Please direct further questions to the medical manager.

Reporting Relationship:
The psychiatrist will report to the Medical Director, Department of Psychiatry, Vancouver Acute, through the Medical Manager.

Compensation:
The psychiatrist will provide a minimum of 4 half-days of work per week in a blended billing model (Sessional and Fee-for-service). Physicians are responsible for their own billings.

Qualifications

Education, Licensing, & Experience:
• A Medical Degree and eligibility for Full licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia.
• Specialist qualification in Psychiatry from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
• Eligibility for a clinical faculty appointment with the UBC Faculty of Medicine,
• Additionally, the candidate should have:
• A demonstrated ability working as a member of an interdisciplinary mental health team.
• A commitment to participate in new methods in health care improvement and delivery.
• Experience working with general adult psychiatry & interest in teaching
• Candidates must meet the credentialing requirements of Vancouver Coastal Health.
