The Only Dedicated Pediatric Operating Rooms in British Columbia
BC Children’s Hospital's OR includes a wide number of specialty services, including a Cardiac
Nursing Team, a Spine Team, and a Retina Team. Our 24-hour operating room provides the best
possible surgical care to all children in British Columbia, as well as children from other provinces
and territories in Western Canada.
ORs are open Monday to Friday, and most nurses work from 0730–1530, with
smaller evening and night shift teams providing coverage from 1530 onwards. 24-hour coverage is
provided 7 days/week.
Services we provide include: trauma surgery, scoliosis surgery,
a cardiac program which features a heart transplant program, ENT, dental, orthopedic, plastics,
neurosurgery, pediatric surgery, urology, gynecology, and ophthalmology.
• Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as an RN with the British Columbia College of Nurses & Midwives (BCCNM).
• Successful completion of a post-graduate program in Operating Room Nursing or an equivalent combination of education, training or experience.
• CPR Training – Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) – Level I.
• At least one (1) year of operating room experience is required
