Role and Impact: As a Quick Response Nurse Practitioner, you will play a crucial role in providing primary and convalescent care to frail elders and vulnerable clients. Your expertise will help those discharged from the ER or in need of home-based care to prevent unnecessary ER visits. Working independently, yet as part of an interdisciplinary 'Quick Response Team,' you will contribute to enhancing primary care access and improving the quality of life and care in the community.
Your Key Responsibilities:
Comprehensive assessment of patients, diagnosing, and treatment initiation.
Prescribe medications in line with regulatory standards and VCH policies.
Provide expert guidance to health professionals and work autonomously within interdisciplinary health teams.
Identify health trends affecting clients and communities, and develop evidence-based strategies to improve health.
Participate in policy-making, quality improvement activities, peer and program review.
Take charge of your professional development, maintaining competence and medical staff privileges.
Report to the Operational Director, Professional Practice, with key accountabilities in quality assurance and patient safety.

Education & Experience:
Current registration as a Nurse Practitioner with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
4 years of recent, relevant clinical nursing experience.
Successful completion of the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE).
Knowledge & Abilities:
Ability to perform the full scope of NP duties and responsibilities.
Applies for and maintains core and non-core privileges as active medical staff within the VCH Regional Department of Nurse Practitioners.
Proficiency in developmental stages, behavioral sciences, pathophysiology, psychopathology, and epidemiology.
Knowledge of pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics for prescribing and evaluating treatment responses.
Skills in communicating and collaborating with patients and families about health findings, diagnosis, treatment, self-care, and prognosis.
Ability to collaborate and refer clients to physicians and other health professionals.
Proficiency in critically assessing health research literature and introducing evidence-based research and education.
Ability to assess and respond to population health trends; plan and implement prevention and health promotion strategies.
Skilled in implementing and evaluating planned change.
Ability to define specific areas of practice and client populations for service provision.
Demonstrated leadership skills within a program and team setting.
Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.

As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections.
