Come work as a General Surgical Oncologist with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)!

The Division of General Surgery at the University of British Columbia invites applications for a full-time one-year locum position in Surgical Oncology, with a focus on general surgical oncology. The dates are flexible and could start between July 1-Sept 30, 2024 and end Mar 30-Jun 30, 2025.

The Division of General Surgery at the University of British Columbia maintains a clinical practice at Vancouver General Hospital (VGH) and the University of British Columbia Hospital (UBCH). The division currently includes 22 general surgeons with areas of expertise in trauma, surgical oncology, hepatobiliary and transplant surgery.

Clinical responsibilities will include directing care and surgical management of patients with pre-malignant and malignant disease. Training and experience in all areas of surgical oncology are required and sup-specialty skills are appreciated, but not essential. Work performed will include but is not limited to assessment of patients in clinic and in the hospital, developing multidisciplinary management plans and performing surgery on appropriate candidates. Participation in regular multidisciplinary tumor conferences is required. Participation in the Acute Care Surgery service at VGH will be considered depending on the applicant’s skill set and experience.

Academic productivity is encouraged, but not expected. Research support is available in the form of a research coordinator, statistician and co-op students. The candidate will participate in training and supervision of medical students, general surgery residents and surgical oncology fellows.

The candidate will be expected to have completed a residency program in general surgery and fellowship in surgical oncology. They will be eligible for licensure in the province of British Columbia.

• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)- Desired

• Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS)- Desired

• Current College of Physicians of BC (CPSBC)- Mandatory

• Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA)-Mandatory

• Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada (FRCSC)- Mandatory

• Surgical Skills- Mandatory
