Come work as a Kidney Transplant Surgeon with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)!
Seeking a fully qualified Kidney Transplant Surgeon to join our growing team in sole Kidney Transplant Program in British Columbia. Primarily sited at Vancouver General Hospital, the candidate will participate in all aspects of Kidney Transplant care delivery, from preassessment, workup, adjudication, perioperative management, living kidney donation, living and deceased donor kidney transplantation, combined organ transplantation, postoperative management of the donor and recipient, and long term followup of both donor and recipient populations. The candidate will be familiar with allocation protocols and participate in deceased donor case workup as well as allocation of organs and deceased donor multiorgan procurement as part of regular duties.
The candidate will be expected to be trained, experienced and independent in all aspects of transplant surgery including minimally invasive living donor surgery, kidney implant surgery, multiorgan deceased donor procurement, allograft nephrectomy, urinary reconstruction post transplantation, etc.
Preferences will be made for candidate who hold ASTS certification in Kidney and/or Multiorgan Transplantation from an accredited ASTS training site. The candidate must hold a certification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or equivalent, without documented training deficiencies, and be eligible for licensure by the BC College of Physicians and Surgeons.
The candidate is expected to forward Programmatic agendas, including formal QA/QI work, Program advancement through strategic advocacy at the Provincial, National and International levels, and/or initiate/advance a domain of transplant related research throughout their career. Candidates are eligible and expected to apply for and successfully advance, an academic appointment through the University of British Columbia.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong work ethic and excellent multidisciplinary team based acumen, working with transplant Nephrology, other transplant Clinical Transplant Services, allied health and more. The candidate will be regularly involved in teaching responsibilities for undergraduate and postgraduate trainees as well as Fellows, which will be day to day requirements as well as form a significant pillar of promotions and tenure evaluation of the candidate's UBC academic appointment.
This position will be funded through a clinical service contract (CSC) and the successful candidate must sign onto the CSC and related governance agreements in order to deliver transplant related services in BC. The successful candidate will participate in Kidney Transplant Surgery on-call schedules as well as the Below Diaphragm Procurement Schedule, and together with the existing surgical team will commit to 24/7/365 Transplant Surgical Services coverage for the Province. General Urology or other Surgical clinical practice is not restricted within the auspices of the CSC, however it is unlikely that beyond the commitments as stated above, the candidate surgeon practitioner will have the ability to generate a significant stable practice over the long term. The primary appointment of the successful candidate will be within the Department of Urologic Sciences and the participant will be beholden to the rights and responsibilities thereof.

• Current College of Physicians of BC (CPSBC) - Full
• Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) - Mandatory
• Surgical Skills – Mandatory
