Come work as a Virtual Physician Support with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)!

Virtual psychiatrist support for Indigenous Health Outreach (IHO) and Indigenous Crisis Response Team (ICRT).

This role will provide virtual psychiatrist consultation and support for the Indigenous Health Outreach (IHO) and Indigenous Crisis Response Team (ICRT) in Indigenous Health at Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH), which are VCH’s only Indigenous-specific outreach and crisis response services.

Leading with cultural safety in an Indigenous Relational and strengths-based approach to care, IHO supports unhoused or precariously housed people in the Downtown Eastside (DTES) community in Vancouver with complex mental health and/or substance use challenges and connects them to cultural supports and health services, including existing mental health & substance use programs and primary care services.

ICRT leads with cultural safety to provide wholistic non-police mobile mental health and wellness crisis response services for people in the Downtown Eastside (DTES) community. IHO and ICRT are an interdisciplinary team and works collaboratively across the health system with community-based service providers, including shelter and supportive housing staff to provide a community-based, healthcare-led crisis response, post-crisis follow up, and service navigation.

Psychiatrist scope/activities, which will be delivered on-call, remotely:

• Provide on-call, virtual, episodic care to patients, who will be initially assessed by our nurses in-person Monday through Friday from 0800-1800

• This episodic care could include a formal consultation with short-term follow up

• It would also include coordinating with the other physicians/NPs on the team as needed to ensure continuity of care, as they take over the patient's care

This episodic care could require:

• Psychotropic medication initiation and titration for mental health decompensation

• Virtual certification with a Form 4 (on rare occasions)

• Care coordination, as well as liaison with other psychiatrists, GPs and NPs

You will need to use Profile EMR, PARIS as well as Cerner for this role, and will be compensated for any training required.
