Global Health Research Nurse, Unallocated Projects

What you’ll do


Collaborate with the CICH and BC Children’s and Women’s leadership to develop, review and/or execute a project plan that builds a community of practice in global health for nurses and allied health at BC Children’s and Women’s Hospital. Engage with health professionals across campus in global health through regular meetings, events, communications and interest groups.
Leads the development, implementation and maintenance of policies and procedures for nursing and allied health engagement in global health research. Ensure the development and updating of policies and procedures are aligned with institutional procedure and processes.
Develop protocol applications and designs patient consent forms for REB (PHSA/UBC Clinical Research Ethics Board).
Review research protocol and study design with the Study Investigator(s) and Study Coordinator(s).
Prepare study documents including Research Ethics Board correspondence, and required regulatory documents as necessary.
Review and explain the purpose and conduct of the study, explain consent forms to research assistants and healthcare workers from a global health context.
Support research staff from a global health context regarding current trials and follows up to ensure compliance is maintained while participants are on trial protocols, and acts as a resource to research staff and colleagues when patients are enrolled in a study.
Support research staff from a global health context in maintaining required records and other related documentation including updating and completing case report forms. Ensure study documents and procedures are up to regulatory standards.
Provide orientation regarding study and protocols to other staff as required. Liaise with other members of the study team regarding clinical issues, records and data management, protocol changes, etc.
Increase the capacity of healthcare workers in global health research and/or quality improvement activities by collegially sharing information and providing guidance around project specific activities or research methods as needed by the global health project.
Communicate project updates to relevant local and international partners. Presenting findings of research results and/or partnership building and educational activities at in-services, hospital lunch and learns and conferences. Prepare publications, abstracts and posters on research findings for academic publication and/or conferences.
Identify new potential research and educational partnerships and collaborations in nursing and allied professions with investigators, staff and students across C&W campus interested or engaged in global health.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications


Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as an RN with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM)
Minimum of three years recent related clinical pediatric or women’s health nursing experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

As a strong asset for consideration, we are looking for our successful candidate to have: Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities of settler colonialism on Indigenous Peoples and familiarity with addressing Indigenous-specific anti-racism, anti-racism and Indigenous Cultural Safety and foundational documents and legislative commitments (The Declaration Act, the Declaration Action Plan, TRC, IPS, Remembering Keegan, etc.).
