What You Will Do:
Reporting to the Nurse Practitioner Department Head for professional issues, and Program Director for operational issues, the Nurse Practitioner is responsible and accountable for the comprehensive assessment of residents including diagnosing diseases, disorders, and conditions. The Nurse Practitioner will work across Brock Fahrni and Youville Residence. Brock Fahrni is a long-term care home for 130 residents, including many veterans. It fosters a community that values inclusivity and holistic care. The goal at Brock Fahrni is to connect residents with the broader community, nature, and each other, ensuring a fulfilling and connected living experience. Youville Residence is a long-term care home providing specialized services for seniors and older adults with dementia. The Nurse Practitioner will work alongside Physicians at Brock Fahrni and Youville Residence to provide ongoing medical care for approximately 44 residents at Brock Fahrni and 6 residents at Youville Residence. This priority population often includes older individuals, those living with frailty, aging-related physical and cognitive changes, dementia and other cognitive impairments, and chronic illnesses.
Your responsibilities will include:
Providing professional guidance to other healthcare professionals, working autonomously and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary healthcare team.
Making referrals to specialist physicians and other resources as necessary.
Collaborating with residents and healthcare professionals to identify trends and patterns that impact the community’s health.
Participating in evidence-based strategies to enhance healthcare services.
Contributing to policy-making activities influencing healthcare practices.

What You Bring:
Education:
Current registration as a Nurse Practitioner with the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals.
Successful completion or awaiting results of the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE).
Completion of the Basic Cardiac Life Support Course, Level C.

Skills and Abilities:
Ability to communicate and collaborate with residents and families about health findings, diagnosis, treatment, self care and prognosis.
Ability to collaborate, consult with and formally refer residents to physicians and other health professionals when appropriate.
Ability to critically assess and evaluate health research literature to determine best practices; ability to introduce education and evidence-based research.
Ability to assess and recognize population health trends; ability to plan and implement strategies for population-based prevention and health promotion.
Ability to implement and evaluate planned change.
Ability to supervise others and evaluate the care they deliver.
Ability to lead a team and work within a team.
Ability to self-direct, interact, and adapt effectively with other professionals in complex, dynamic situations.
Ability to transfer knowledge, teach, coach and mentor others.
Ability to identify and respond appropriately to legal and ethical issues that may arise in resident care.
Ability to self-assess performance and assume responsibility and accountability for own professional development, educational or consultative assistance when appropriate.

A competitive salary: $74.45-$81.90 per hour, depending on NP experience. Reimbursement is also available upon successful completion of the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) for NPs who have not yet completed the exam.
