Role and Facility Information

Hematopathologists working at PHC provide diagnostic services and medical oversight to the hematology and transfusion medicine (TM) labs at Saint Paul's Hospital (SPH) and Mount Saint Joseph Hospital (MSJ) in Vancouver. PHC hematopathologists participate in bone marrow procurement, blood film, fluid film, bone marrow (aspirate and trephine biopsy), flow cytometry and hemostasis sign-out. Participation in medical oversight of the TM laboratory and after hours/weekend on-call services is also required. Teaching UBC medical trainees (undergraduate, residents and fellows) and laboratory technologists is an integral part of our weekly professional activities, and regular teaching contributions are expected by all hematopathologists.
