Position Summary
Within the context of a patient and family-centered model of care, and in accordance with the
Mission, Vision, Values and strategic directions of Providence Health Care (“Providence”), the
Division of Infectious Diseases is seeking a Permanent, Full time Infectious Diseases Physician at
St.Paul’s Hospital.

The Division of Infectious Diseases, Department of Medicine at St. Paul’s Hospital (SPH) invites
applications for an Infectious Diseases Physician. It is expected that the physician recruited will also
be recommended for a Clinical Faculty position with the University of British Columbia, Department
of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases, based at SPH, which is a part of Providence Health Care (PHC).
The successful candidate must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons
of BC in Infectious Diseases. They must have formal training in Infectious Diseases. Additional
clinical or academic training such as Fellowship or specialized training in wound care and/or diabetic foot infections, infections in marginalized populations and/or cardiac and cardiac device infections is highly desirable. They must also be able to collaborate with other divisions and a multidisciplinary team, including surgeons, internists, podiatrists, and nurses.
The successful candidate will be a full member of the Division of Infectious Diseases at St. Paul’s
Hospital with participation on the general Infectious Diseases consult services, inpatient Infection
Unit, OPAT clinic and the after-hours and/or weekend call pool. This will include inpatient and
outpatient care responsibilities. They will be expected to lead and contribute to specialized programs e.g. wound care programs, cardiac infections including cardiac devices, antimicrobial stewardship efforts, participate in ongoing clinical research, education, and quality improvement initiatives.
There are additional opportunities for virtual and in-person care and cross-appointment at Mt. St.
Joseph’s Hospital (MSJ) (also Providence Health). Cross appointment with Internal Medicine with
attending responsibilities on the Clinical Teaching Units at MSJ is also an option (but not requirement).
The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the undergraduate as well as
postgraduate teaching activities of the Division and Department.
This position will be a clinical appointment at St. Paul’s Hospital within the Division of Infectious
Diseases. The successful applicant will join a diverse faculty of 15 clinician and clinician scientist witha strong reputation in clinical care of marginalized individuals with serious bacterial and viral
infections as well as excellence in teaching and research.
The position will begin at the current SPH site on Burrard Street in Vancouver but will transition to the New St. Paul’s Hospital on Station Street in Vancouver’s False Creek Flats neighbourhood in 2027.
Qualifications
Education, Licensing, & Experience:
• Current College of Physicians of BC (CPSBC) License – Full (or Provisional if US applicant and
ABIM certified)
• Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) – Mandatory
• Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC) or American Board of Internal
Medicine (ABIM) certified in Infectious Diseases – Mandatory
• Strong clinical skills and a commitment to evidence-based medicine.
• Experience working in a hospital setting and in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.

Remuneration:
Fee for Service with plan to transition to Clinical Service Contract
On-call stipend (Medical On-Call Availability Program – MoCAP) for Consult Service and Infection
Inpatient Unit.
UBC Teaching Stipend for dedicated didactic sessions and learners on clinical service
Responsibilities:
Equivalent of 24 weeks of service per year (1680 work hours including approx. 1:4 weekend call with
a plan to decrease weekend call requirements as recruitment continues) distributed over:
• Inpatient Consult Service at SPH
• Infectious Diseases Continuing Care service at SPH (combined inpatient and outpatient
service)
• Infection Unit Most Responsible Physician (24 bed unit)
• OPAT (Outpatient Parenteral Antibiotics)
• Outpatient Clinics
• Inpatient Consult Service at Mt St Joseph’s Hospital (MSJ)
• Internal Medicine Clinical Teaching Unit Most Responsible Physician at MSJ (if desired)
