Position Summary:
Within the context of a patient and family-centered model of care, and in accordance with the Mission, Vision, Values and strategic directions of Providence Health Care (“Providence”), the Department of Psychiatry is seeking an adult psychiatrist in Outpatients (Brief Intervention Clinic and Virtual Psychiatry). This job is offered in combination with a 0.5 FTE posting at Raven Song, VCH and a 0.4 FTE with St. Paul’s Hospital.

St. Paul’s Hospital is an inner-city hospital within downtown Vancouver. It provides acute and short-term outpatient care for a complex population with comorbid illness that includes substance use. The focus of the hospital is on acute care and access for short-term outpatient care while working closely with community providers in the city.

The patients seen within our services include mood disorders, anxiety disorders, psychotic illnesses and substance use with secondary psychosis. It is a population that requires an inter-disciplinary approach and good relationships within the community.
Our department prides itself on collegiality and support of its members. St. Paul’s Hospital is a teaching hospital and there is a requirement to provide supervision to residents and students. In addition, the department is looking for members who are interested in research, leadership and quality improvement.

Qualifications:
An interest in acute care psychiatry with a complex population is essential to the positions. An ability to work collaboratively with physicians, nurses and other team members is of vital importance in this work. Good verbal and written communication as well as reliability and consistency are important for successful applicants.
