Subspecialty Addiction Medicine

Role and Facility Information

The successful candidate will provide General Practitioner (GP) or Specialist (SP) Addiction Medicine services to clients in acute care who may be admitted for a primary condition other than Substance Use Disorder, but whose assessment, treatment and discharge plan is strengthened through an addiction medicine consultation.

AMCS supports substance use treatment through assessment and diagnosis; symptom management (particularly for difficult withdrawal symptoms); treatment initiation during hospitalization including opioid agonist therapy; post discharge planning and liaison with community-based treatment resources.

The successful candidate, as part of the multidisciplinary team, will collaborate closely with Nursing, Social Work, Mental Health Support Workers, as well as peer support workers and individuals with lived experience.

Island Health is affiliated with the UBC Faculty of Medicine Island Medical Program, and the successful candidate will be required to provide teaching and training to medical students and residents. A clinical faculty appointment at UBC is a prerequisite for this role.

Variable hours within 8:00-5:00 M-F

Qualifications and Experience:

Full Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC is required, and one of the following is recommended;

- Certification and Credentialing with the International Society of Addiction Medicine, or;

- CCFP (AM-CAC), or;

- FRCPC (AM-AFC), or;

- Fellowship in Addiction Medicine required

Benefits

May be eligible for additional remuneration in accordance with the Rural Subsidy Agreement (RSA) including:

- Recruitment Incentive: up to a maximum of $10,000 (pro-rated based on FTE)

- Relocation: up to a maximum of $15,000 (amount based on location relocating from)

- Fee Premium - 6.93%

- Annual Flat Fee - $10,739.52

- Rural CME starting at $2,200/annum in years 3 & 4 in the community, increasing to a maximum of $4,400/annum after 4 years.
