Role and Facility Information

Island Health has an opportunity for a part-time 0.4 FTE Anesthesiologist to join their team at the Comox Valley Hospital.

Comox Valley Hospital is a new 150 bed community hospital with state of the art facilities. There are 6 OR’s with 5 operationalized and 1 reserved for emergency caesarean sections.

Anesthesiologists provide services for Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Urology, General Surgery, ENT, Dentistry, Ophthalmology, and Orthopaedics.

In addition, anesthesiologists provide anesthesia for ECT and Cardioversion and assist with emergency intubations in the ER and ICU.

Comox Anesthesiologists also run a consultation clinic and an out of OR position designated as Rover.

Weekday call starts at 1500 and ends at 0800 with mandatory on site coverage till 2000 then home call after that. Precall and post call are off. Weekend and stats are 24 hour call 0800 to 0800 with mandatory on site coverage from 0800 to 1200.

Applicants must have recent (within 6 months) paediatric (2 yrs and older) and obstetrical experience or demonstrate a plan to update these skills. Applicants will be flexible in their ability to increase coverage at times of HR shortage to ensure we can fulfill our APP requirements.

Shortlisted applicants should plan to spend an absolute minimum of 1 week with the department and ideally longer as a locum in the department.

Once the locum is complete, each candidate will undergo a thorough 360 degree assessment. Candidates who meet the criteria and have a successful locum will be offered an interview.

• Annual Flat Fee - $10,739.52
• Recruitment Incentive - $4,000 (pro-rated for 0.4 FTE)
• Relocation Costs - up to a maximum of $15,000 (Depending on location moving from)
• Rural CME: Years 3 & 4 - $3000/annum; after 4 years: $6000/annum
