Role and Facility Information

The Comox Valley Campus of the North Island Hospital in the beautiful and family-friendly Comox Valley is seeking a full time community Respirologist. The successful applicant will join a collegial group of internists including 7 general internists, 2 GIM/Intensivists, 2 respirologists, an endocrinologist and a gastroenterologist.

Clinical duties would include full scope outpatient Respiratory consultative services in an office setting. It is expected that availability for inpatient consultations within a reasonable timeframe as required. This duty would be shared amongst the two respirologists.

The hospital provides pulmonary function lab services, and this position would include a 50% share of the pulmonary function test interpretations. There will be access to bronchoscopy services through the hospital. There is excellent medical imaging support (including radiologists with special training in chest imaging and intervention) and pathology support for the clinical work here.

This position does not have inpatient MRP responsibilities, because inpatient is part of the job. Also, this position does not come with the expectation of overnight Internal Medicine call.

In addition to clinical duties, the successful applicant will work with hospital administration and their colleagues to support local educational activities including teaching the UBC medical students, Family Practice residents, and Internal Medicine residents. There will be opportunities to participate in coordinating multidisciplinary quality improvement initiatives. Candidates may qualify for recruitment incentives through the Ministry of Health Rural Subsidy Agreement.
