Role and Facility Information
This is an opportunity to be part of a new model of primary care in British Columbia. We allow physicians to work to the top of their scope as part of a multidisciplinary team. Leave behind volume driven care and admin responsibilities and work to meet the needs of your patients in the way that you find rewarding.
This is a new purpose-built facility on Bowen Island that provides primary care and allied health services to residents of Bowen.
The 10,000 square foot facility is funded by the community and designed around a vision to bring health care close to home on Bowen. More than 550 families contributed in excess of $8M to build the facility — a strong signal of both need and support for access to primary care.
The facility has a 4,500-sf primary care centre where physicians, nurse practitioners and allied health supports will work together as a multi-disciplinary team to meet the physical, social and mental health needs of Bowen residents. In addition to the family practitioners, the team will include registered nurses, community care coordinators (patient navigators), social worker, mental health worker, physiotherapist, dietician, and Indigenous cultural safety supports. This team will work closely with the practitioners and allow them to work to the top of their scope.
The family physicians in the practice are part of a Group Contract and on the Alternative Payment Plan with a very generous fixed compensation package that has no overhead costs nor admin responsibilities. Physicians are eligible for rural premiums on top of compensation. Management of staff and the clinic is done through the Executive Director and Medical Director.
Funding for the clinic and its operations comes from Vancouver Coastal Health Authority. Staff and Family Practitioners are contracted to the Bowen Island Health Centre Foundation which holds the service agreement with VCH.
Family Physicians in the clinic will have an attachment goal of 800 patients per FTE (prorated for portion) and have capacity to take on a limited number of walk-in patients.
This is an opportunity to work in a new innovative health care model that is designed to retain physicians and to meet the unique needs of the local community. You will have an opportunity to shape the practice from the early days.
