Do you have a passion for nursing? We have the position for you! We are seeking a motivated Registered Nurse with a dedication for delivering compassionate patient care to join our team at Lakes District Hospital.
Under the direction of the Team Leader the Substance Use Outreach Nurse works in collaboration with the interprofessional team including Physicians, Nurses, Mobile Support Teams, and other health care providers, to provide flexible, community based services that are designed to promote the stability, recovery and community reintegration of individuals who have a mental illness and substance use issues. The Substance Use Outreach Nurse coordinates and provides, in a compassionate and responsible manner, assessment, crises intervention and follow-up services to clients and identified supports as required. The Substance Use Outreach Nurse collaborates with all teams to provide expertise in development of treatment plans for clients with complex substance use and mental illnesses utilizing a Harm Reduction and Person and Family Centered care approaches. The Substance Use Outreach Nurse performs all routine team responsibilities including lead responsibility for integrating concurrent treatment with the tasks of other team members.
Shift Rotation/Hours of work:: Monday to Friday, Days - 08:00 to 16:00
Lakes District Hospital is a 12 acute bed hospital that offers emergency services, laboratory, diagnostic imaging, rehabilitation, pharmacy. There is one labour/delivery/recovery suite and 1 palliative care room. There are provision for public health, mental health and addictions, and home and community care service, as well as local physician and emergency services.
Burns Lake has a population of 1,779 (2021) local residents and serves the surrounding areas of the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako estimating a population of 7,000. Wilderness and some of BC’s largest freshwater lakes where sport fishing is a popular activity for both locals and tourists surround Burns Lake. Qualifications
• Current practicing registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) is required.
• Completion of post basic specialty nursing certificate/program if applicable and three (3) years' recent, related experience in the designated specialized clinical area, including experience in crisis intervention when applicable to the job, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Valid BC Driver's License and access to personal vehicle for local area travel may be required.
Skills and Abilities:
• Assessment and Intervention – Demonstrated ability to complete initial and ongoing client assessments (clinical and diagnostic reasoning) and provide nursing care through appropriate/ prescribed technical, therapeutic, safety type interventions. Knowledge and understanding of Sexual assault education and training to assist with Sexual assault kits; basic wound care, specifically those with significant substance use wounds.
• Communication – Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with the clients, families, the public, medical staff and the members of the interdisciplinary team using verbal, written and computer communication means.
• Critical Thinking – Demonstrated ability to integrate and evaluate pertinent data (from multiple sources) to problem-solve effectively.
• Human Caring and Relationship Centered Practice – Ability to promote client-focused care that demonstrates care for and with clients and significant others, sensitive to diverse cultures and preferences, client advocacy and social justice concerns.
• Teaching – Ability to transmit information intended to instruct clients and others about topics essential to health care and well-being.
• Management – Manages time and resources, implementing activities to promote cooperation among relevant others, collaboration across disciplines and related activities.
• Leadership – Promotes staff morale, cooperation, assertiveness and risk-taking, creative planning for change and innovations, implementation of IH policies or other protocols, and ongoing professional development of self.
• Knowledge Integration – Using factual information, prior learning and basic principles and procedures to support decisions and actions with relevant research-based evidence. Integrates best practice from nursing and health-related disciplines and the humanities, arts and sciences disciplines into professional practice.
• Ability to operate related equipment including relevant computer applications.
• Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
