Specialty Family Practitioner/General Practitioner

Subspecialty Emergency

Role and Facility Information

We are seeking a dedicated family physician with rural and remote experience to join Practice D in Daajing Giids. This position is 0.5 FTE, and is expected to start April 1, 2026.

Physicians and Staff are part of a community-run project in health care delivery designed to give a team approach to health care. The Haida Gwaii Hospital and Health Centre – Xaayda Gwaay Ngaaysdll Naay opened in 2016. The new facility, which serves a population of 3,000, features a modernized environment for the delivery of public and mental health and addictions programs, and home and community care services. The newly reconfigured hospital layout benefits the delivery of acute and emergency services including:
• 8 Acute Care beds
• 1 labour, delivery and recovery suite
• Designated program space for Diagnostic Imaging, Laboratory and Pharmacy
• 8 Long-term Care beds

You can expect a supportive, passionate and collegial experience with long serving colleagues in the community who value mentoring both learners and new-to-practice physicians in their unique practice environment. This leads to an active learning environment with weekly skills drills and educational CME luncheons.

XGNN/HGHHC is a teaching site for UBC Faculty of Medicine, and this opportunity includes teaching and mentoring medical learners including family practice residents and under-graduate medical and nurse practitioner students.

Haida Gwaii consists of approximately 250 islands off the northwest coast of British Columbia. The Haida culture is world-wide and highly celebrated.

Whether you enjoy paddle boarding, surfing in the north end of the island, kayaking, fishing, crabbing, or beach combing and hiking, you will never run out of fun activities waiting for you to explore.
