Kitimat

Located 60 kilometres south of Terrace in northwestern British Columbia, the modern port city of Kitimat was built in the 1950s for the Aluminum Company of Canada (Alcan). A planned community with defined residential areas and a centralized urban core, it is home today to one of the world’s largest smelters, a pulp and paper mill, a petrochemical manufacturer and a fish hatchery. Nestled at the end of Douglas Channel, a 140 kilometre fjord along the Alaska-Vancouver “Inside Passage,” Kitimat’s beautiful setting provides the backdrop for a unique mix of successful industries and a natural, outdoor lifestyle.
