Position Summary
In you are a Registered Nurse (RN) who is experienced in Infection Prevention and Control practice, then prepare to join our innovative and growing team at the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital, located in Trail BC.

You come with three (3) years’ recent related clinical experience in an acute or long-term care setting, which includes two (2) years’ recent related experience working directly with infection control processes (such as, outbreak management, point of care risk assessment, routine practices, and additional precautions).

This is a Permanent Full-Time position.

Shift Times: Monday to Friday with on call rotation STATS and Weekends; 08:00 to 16:00 Rotating.

What will you work on?
The Infection Control Practitioner (ICP) practices in accordance with the standards of professional practice as outlined by the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives. The ICP promotes a safe and respectful environment for clients, families, visitors and staff.

Reporting to the Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) Manager, the ICP works to reduce the acquisition of healthcare-associated infections by contributing to the development of standards for and assisting in the monitoring of infection control measures in acute, long term care and community settings within IH. The ICP participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of infection control initiatives using quality improvement methodologies, evidence-informed practice, knowledge of infectious diseases processes, principles of epidemiology and microbiology, surveillance, routine practices, additional precautions, research utilization and education. The ICP functions as a consultant, mentor, educator in infection prevention and control with all levels of IH staff, visitors, volunteers and others.

The ICP is responsible for promoting excellence in client-centered care through collaborative planning and organizing of activities necessary to meet IPAC standards in the assigned departments, programs, facilities and sites fulfilling functions of health service, education and research.

Qualifications
Education, Training and Experience:
Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).

Three (3) years’ recent related clinical experience in an acute or long term care setting, which includes two (2) years’ recent related experience working directly with infection control processes (such as, outbreak management, point of care risk assessment, routine practices and additional precautions).

Completion of, or enrollment in, an IPAC Canada endorsed Infection Prevention and Control course including:
• Centennial College Onsite and Online Infection Control course
• Queen’s University online basic Infection Control course
• University of British Columbia IPAC certificate
• Bay River College, Infection Prevention and Control Program

Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience

Valid Class 5 vehicle license required.
