Specialty Nurse Practitioner

Role and Facility Information

The Clinic is looking for a 0.6 FTE Nurse Practitioner to join our team as we build healthier communities and develop a network of outstanding healthcare professionals. This clinic is operated by the Nexus Patient and Community Care Society and is a partnership with the Ministry of Health, Island Health and Nurses and Nurse Practitioners of BC and is a part of Nanaimo’s Primary Care Network.

NPs at the Nexus Clinic work in a team-based model of care; working collaboratively with Registered Nurses, Allied Health Clinicians (Social Work and Mental Health and Substance Use) and a Clinical Pharmacist.

Responsibilities include:

• Comprehensive assessment of patients including diagnosing diseases,

disorders and conditions.

• Initiate treatment including health care management, therapeutic

interventions and prescribe medications.

• Provide medical coordination and participate in multidisciplinary team

planning for the ongoing health needs of patients.

• Participate in the development and operation of a team-based practice

wide program that may include:

o Health promotion/Disease prevention

o Illness prevention

o Chronic disease management

o Specialty care of specific populations

• Clinical teaching/preceptorship

• Clinical administrative services, including:

o Health care/service planning activities including participating in

planning of long-term health care delivery goals for practice.

o Participation in the evaluation of the efficiency, quality and delivery

of the service (e.g., participation in medical audits, peer and

interdisciplinary reviews, chart reviews, and incident report reviews,

quality improvement activities).

Qualifications:

Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing NP registrant; successful completion of the OSCE (Objective Structured Clinical Examination) and two (2) years of recent, relevant clinical nursing experience.
