Role and Facility Information
Full time, outpatient – based, full scope, adult community Rheumatology practice. Full access to outpatient lab and imaging services, and hospital based testing including, but not limited to, CT, MRI, ultrasound, PFT, ECHO, EMG/NCS. Hospital privileges are mandated to provide consultative inpatient services at Nanaimo General Hospital and to enable ordering of medical ambulatory treatments. The successful candidate is mandated to join the Rheumatology Rapid Access to Consultative Expertise (RACE) line providing rheumatology telephone advice Monday through Friday 8am-5pm on a rotating schedule for Vancouver Island. Membership in the Vancouver Island Rheumatology Association (VIRA) is encouraged and involves biannual weekend conferences consisting of participation in a journal club, guest speaker presentation, complex case discussions, and business agenda for the Vancouver Island group of currently 11 adult rheumatologists (of whom 3 practice in Nanaimo) and 1 paediatric rheumatologist. Research and teaching opportunists for medical students, interns and rheumatology fellows are available. Video participation in the University of British Columbia Division of Rheumatology weekly rounds is encouraged. Further continuing medical education opportunities exist through the BC Society of Rheumatology, Western Alliance of Rheumatology, Canadian Rheumatology Association, Pacific Northwest Rheumatism Society, and American College of Rheumatology memberships.
