Subspecialty General Internal Medicine

Role and Facility Information

The Division of Internal Medicine at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH) is seeking full-time General Internal medicine Specialists to join our group.

Our General Internal Medicine group at NRGH currently has 5 members along with several part time members, who are a collegial group of internists of various professional backgrounds. There are sub-specialists within the hospital including Cardiology, Hematology, Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Nephrology, Infectious Disease, Respirology, Geriatrics, Neurology, Endocrinology, Obesity, and OB medicine. The hospital has a large hospitalist service (220/330 patients) and is the backbone most responsible physician (MRP) service. Although we have a limited on-site cardiology group, there is timely access to a large cardiology group in Victoria.

Internal medicine on-call service and inpatient rounding service are remunerated on a contractual basis with competitive hourly rates. If you meet 1.0 FTE hospital commitment, you would receive free overhead for our hospital-based clinic space with EMR support to follow up on your patients post-discharge as well as newly referred outpatients from the ER. There is also access to electrodiagnostics.

Our hospital is a primary referral centre for central Vancouver Island. It serves an immediate population of 125,000 and a secondary population of 330,000 and is a 345 bed hospital, with extensive diagnostic services, dedicated ICU (separate from Internal Medicine), and a renal dialysis centre. The hospital is also a residency site for UBC’s Family Practice Residency Program.

Candidates we are looking to join our group will need to be eligible for FRCPC (Internal Medicine with the Royal College of Canada) and eligible for licensure with the CPSBC.
