The Division of Internal Medicine in Nanaimo has an opening for additional full-time General Internists. The hospital is the primary referral centre for central Vancouver Island, providing services to an immediate population of 125,000 and secondary referral services for a population of 330,000. The hospital has 224 beds, excellent diagnostic services, a dedicated (closed) ICU, renal dialysis unit and a cancer centre. With a foundation of general internal medicine, our group members have subspecialty interests and qualifications in respirology, nephrology, infectious diseases, neurology, ICU and geriatrics. All General Internists practice cardiovascular medicine. A strong referral link with interventional cardiology exists with subspecialty colleagues in Victoria.
We have a collegial group with a vested interest in improving service delivery to central Vancouver Island.
The ideal candidate will be eligible for licensure with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Internal Medicine and be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC. We are looking for general internists who have no cross specialty appointment who are willing to do at least three to four 24h calls per month and participate in all aspects of internal medicine here at NRGH, which includes managing complex medical patients, providing general cardiac care and peri-operative consults. The ideal candidate will enjoy the benefits reading ECGs, supervising treadmills and, or MIBIs, participate in the outpatient Rapid Cardiac Assessment Clinic, Urgent Medical Assessment Clinic and in the Complex Medical Care Unit which is responsible for some of the most ill patients within the hospital. There are opportunities to be solely hospital based with the expectation of doing up to five calls per month in lieu of having an outpatient practice.
