Role and Facility Information

The successful candidate will provide Addiction Medicine services to clients requiring care for substance use disorders, including opioid and alcohol use disorders. This medical clinic serves the Nanaimo area and provides walk-in or referral service.

Services at the clinic are provided as part of a multidisciplinary team to outpatients. Physicians agree to provide consults by phone and in person for patients associated with the clinic 5 days per week. Assessment, diagnosis and management of patients with moderate to severe and complex substance use along with the initiation of opioid agonist therapy or anti-craving medications are expected as part of this role. Thorough documentation, robust discharge planning, and connecting patients to longer term services is the goal of the clinic.

Island Health is affiliated with the UBC Faculty of Medicine Island Medical Program, and the successful candidate will be required to provide teaching and training to medical students and residents. A clinical faculty appointment at UBC will be required, and assistance in applying for a faculty appointment can be provided.
