Specialty Internal Medicine

Subspecialty General Internal Medicine

Role and Facility Information

We are a group of 23 specialists in General Internal Medicine serving the two tertiary referral hospitals in Victoria.

At the Royal Jubilee Hospital we act as the attending physicians on the Clinical Teaching unit which has three teams with both senior and junior IM residents, off service Junior Residents along with 3rd and 4th year medical students. We also run an Internal Medicine Consult service, primarilyresponsible for providing IM support for the surgical services. At the Victoria General Hospital we run three concurrent in-patient services: one for MRP patients, primarily on the telemetry unit, as well as a consult service for admitted patients and an Electrodiagnostics service (treadmills, pharmacological stress testing, ECG and HOLTER reporting).

Victoria also has a satellite Internal Medicine residency program through the University of British Columbia, training about 15 residents total along with the undergraduate Island Medical program, and our division members play an integral role in teaching and training for both programs. All of our members obtain faculty positions through the University of British Columbia.

At both hospital sites we are very well supported by a robust hospitalist service and have excellent specialty and sub-specialty support in the city. In addition to in-patient work, we also staff Urgent Medical Assessment Clinics at both sites to see referrals from our Emergency Departments as well as urgent referral from Primary Care with a wide array of medical issues.

We are a cohesive, dynamic, and expanding group of physicians and are enthusiastic to welcome new ideas from new members. We are seeking one physician to join our group.
