Role and Facility Information

Island Health's Thoracic Surgery Program invites applications for a full-time General Thoracic Surgeon to join our growing Division of Thoracic Surgery in the Department of Surgery at the Royal Jubilee and Victoria General Hospitals. The Division is expanding from a 3 to a 4 surgeon group with a plan to expand to a 5 surgeon group in the near future.

Eligible applicants must hold FRCSC certification in Thoracic Surgery and be eligible for full licensure with CPSBC. The successful applicant will hold advanced training and skills in general thoracic surgery and minimally invasive thoracic surgery as well as have experience in both esophageal (benign and malignant) and pulmonary thoracic surgical care. Training in Endoscopic Bronchial Ultrasound will be a strong asset. Applicants should demonstrate a record of excellence in surgical residency training, clinical service and academic expertise.

The Royal Jubilee and Victoria General Hospitals provide a comprehensive clinical and expanding academic regional program. The Thoracic Surgical Program is primarily based at the Royal Jubilee Hospital with consultative and emergency operative coverage at the Victoria General Hospital as well as appointments to the British Columbia Cancer Agency consultative staff.

Remuneration is based on an alternative payment program with a separate compensation for on-call coverage. Rank as a member of the Clinical Faculty will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Our program provides tertiary services across Vancouver Island to a population of over 899,337. This position is affiliated with the University of British Columbia Department of Surgery and Division of Thoracic Surgery. The Royal Jubilee and Victoria General Hospitals are part of the academic campus of the University of British Columbia Medical School-Island Medical Program.
