Role and Facility Information

The Department of Psychiatry, Island Health, South Island, is looking for a part-time Psychiatrist to join the 2North inpatient unit at Royal Jubilee Hospital.

The successful candidate will provide in-patient psychiatric care as part of an interdisciplinary team, and in collaboration with psychiatric colleagues on the unit. This unit provides specialized care to adults (age 17 to 65 +) affected by the full range of psychiatric conditions including substance use disorders.

The therapeutic program includes a comprehensive range of treatments including individual and group psychotherapy, medication management, and ECT.

The successful candidate will be encouraged to combine this position with an outpatient role in Island Health MHSU services.

The successful candidate will hold an Independent License with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia and will be a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons.

Experience working in a team environment, with supervision of students and residents, is preferred.

On call responsibility is mandatory for Island Health psychiatry services.

Island Health is part of the UBC Faculty of Medicine Island Medical Program. The successful candidate will be required to provide teaching and training for medical students and residents. A clinical faculty appointment at UBC is necessary.

Participation in research is strongly encouraged and facilitated by Island Health.

Participation in the evaluation of the efficiency, quality and delivery of the Services is expected. This may include participation in medical audits, peer and interdisciplinary reviews, chart reviews, and incident report reviews.

Participation in clinical, operational, and Department of Psychiatry meetings is expected.
