Role and Facility Information

Seeking Emergency Medicine physicians for permanent full-time and part-time positions at Cowichan District Hospital. We are a group of enthusiastic ED physicians with CCFP-EM and FRCP certification. Our Emergency Department sees around 125 visits per day. In addition to regular Emergency Department shifts, we also have a Rapid Access and Diagnostic Virtual Unit (RADU), which manages patients meeting strict criteria who are likely to be discharged within 24hrs of admission. The RADU physician also supports the Emergency Department. We have double coverage from 09:00 to 01:00 every day and triple coverage from 11- 1930.

We are looking for someone to work Emergency Department shifts - Day, Afternoon, Early Evening, Late Evening and Overnight, as well as RADU shifts. We are affiliated with the University of British Columbia’s Island Medical Program and participate in teaching medical students and residents (limited to certain shifts). We are also the pre-deployment readiness site for military physicians and PAs.

The Cowichan medical community is tightly knit, with great collegial relationships across the acute and community settings, and an active and engaged Division of Family Practice and Medical Staff Association. As a physician group, we are excited to be actively involved in planning for the new Cowichan District Hospital, which will feature state of the art equipment and design, is expected to be completed in 2027 and will bring added inpatient capacity (203 beds, 185 operational at opening) as well as expanded OR and ICU capacity.

We would be delighted to provide more information to anyone interested - please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions!
