Role and Facility Information

The Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry of Island Health are seeking a part-time Psychiatrist to provide Child and Adolescent services in the community of Duncan. The successful candidate will provide support to the Y Star child and youth crisis team and Discovery substance use services in Cowichan. The patient population consists of mostly teenagers and all are affected by substance use and have concurrent mental health issues. The physician will liaise with the clinical team to triage patients, provide indirect support to the team, arrange for direct consultation and provide a management plan. Follow up care may be required for a subset of patients. Pharmacology, psychotherapy, education and motivational interviewing are all potential modes of intervention. An understanding of cultural influences specifically in the indigenous population is imperative. Services may be provided virtually or in person and outreach may be requested.

At this time, the department is open to applicants that are General/Adult Psychiatrists with demonstrated interest in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

Additional Information:

All part-time Psychiatry positions can be combined with available other part-time positions to create a rewarding and diverse full-time Psychiatry practice.
