Role and Facility Information

The Palliative Care group is currently seeking a permanent part-time Palliative Care Physician to join our team in the Cowichan Valley, based in Duncan, BC. This position involves providing care in a variety of clinical settings, including community home visits, long-term care, acute care, and a beautiful local hospice. The role is part of a multidisciplinary palliative care team dedicated to delivering high-quality, compassionate, patient-centred care.

The Cowichan District Hospital is known for its exceptionally collegial and collaborative atmosphere among both generalist and specialist medical staff. The successful candidate will provide consultative support to patients across settings and will also play a key role in supporting generalist palliative care providers through education, mentorship, and clinical advice.

Applicants must hold CCFP certification and have either completed a one-year enhanced skills program in Palliative Medicine with a Certificate of Added Competence (CAC) through the College of Family Physicians of Canada, or have a minimum of four years’ experience as a palliative care consultant.

As the Cowichan District Hospital is affiliated with the University of British Columbia (UBC) and the Island Medical Program, participation in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education is an essential component of this role. Benefits:

May be eligible for additional remuneration in accordance with the Rural Subsidiary Agreement (RSA) including:

- Recruitment Incentive: $10,000 (full-time)
- Relocation Costs Reimbursement: up to $15,000 (amount based on location relocating from)
- Fee Premium: 4.20%
- Annual Flat Fee: $6,508.80
- Rural CME: starting at $3000/annum in year 3 & 4 to a maximum of $6,00.00/annum after 4 years.
