Northern Health is seeking a Pediatrician for Dawson Creek, BC. Your opportunity to build a new pediatric service, and consultations are abundant. In addition to clinic, you will support the maternity unit if, and when needed, as well you will receive consultations from ER physicians for advice on management of patients that may require your expertise.

Dawson Creek has no designated inpatient pediatric beds or a neonatal intensive care unit. Regional pediatric in-patient services are provided in Prince George BC.

Dawson Creek is a very young community with a high birth rate (400 per year). You will be supported by locum Pediatricians in nearby Fort St. John (45 minutes away). Dawson Creek has child and youth mental health services, a Child Development Centre (CDC), and an Integrated Child & Youth Team (IYC); there is a Foundry 45 mins away in Fort St John.

Our full-service community hospital has the following supports for you:
• 24/7 emergency and Family Practice Anesthesia (FPA)
• Maternity care and OB/Gyn
• Local specialists include General Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Internal Medicine, Radiology, and Psychiatry
• Diagnostic imaging including CT and plans for MRI in the new hospital
• Cancer care

Dawson Creek has a new hospital build underway and we anticipate it opening in 2027.

If you are interested in specialized work, opportunities exist for Complex Developmental / Behavioral Conditions and Autism Assessments. You are eligible for a UBC Medicine Clinical Faculty appointment in Pediatrics. If you wish to become a Physician Leader, pursue clinical research and/or develop Quality Improvement Initiatives within Dawson Creek or Northern Health, we offer supportive infrastructure to assist you.

Dawson Creek is known as "Mile Zero", where the world-famous Alaska Highway begins!

The city has a population of approximately 13,000, provides primary service to a population of 20,000 and helps serve the larger population of the Peace River Region, approximately 70,000.
The city offers shopping, services, restaurants, cafés, a health food store, art gallery, live theatre, and the state-of-the-art Ovintiv Events Centre that hosts major music concerts.

Recreation opportunities include a state-of-the-art indoor Aquatic Centre, indoor walking track, gyms, yoga, Pilates, and dance studios, biking trails, golfing, swimming, boating, kayaking, paddle boarding, fishing, hiking, camping, bird watching, and visiting our numerous parks. In the wintertime, enjoy our indoor curling rink, two indoor skating rinks, a full-size outdoor speed skating oval, 25 kilometres of groomed trails for cross-country (Nordic) skiing, Bear Mountain Ski Hill (downhill skiing and snowboarding), back-country skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling.

The city has a wide variety of authentic cuisines including Chinese, Japanese, and Italian (to name a few), and also a wide variety of dining atmospheres: choose from restaurants, hotel buffets, familiar franchises, and local coffee shops.

Dawson Creek has eleven elementary schools, one middle school and one secondary school. Northern Lights College provides post-secondary education.

Rural Continuing Medical Education allowance $1,800 to $7,800 per year. Rural Education Action Plan (REAP) available. Rural Subsidiary Agreement (RSA) funding is subject to change without notice.
