Role and Facility Information

Northern Health is seeking a Family Practitioner to provide 0.75 FTE primary care services and on-call ER coverage in McBride, BC. The selected candidate will join the Primary Care Network. The practice is a very pleasant mix of low volume and interesting intensity. The clinic averages less than 20 patients per day and emergency coverage averages less than two calls on weekday nights and less than 12 total over the weekend (from 4 pm Friday to 8 am Monday). There is a wonderful and interesting variety of health maintenance, chronic disease, and acute care of illness or trauma.

McBride Hospital and Health Center provides a number of different services for the community, and the Robson Valley all under one roof. The facility has three acute care beds and eight long term care beds and provides the following services:

• 24-hour emergency room

• Outpatient services

• 1 respite bed

• Full-time laboratory services

• Full-time x-ray services

• Medical clinic providing general medical appointments with a focus on developing a primary care home for patients

• Mental health and addictions services

• Counselling

• Home and community care

• Public health services

• Visiting specialist clinics (orthopedics and renal)

• Well woman clinics

• Foot care clinics

• Patient/physician videoconferencing consultations

The Village of McBride is nestled between the Canadian Rockies and the Cariboo Mountains in the beautiful Robson Valley. Towering mountains outline the horizon with snow-capped peaks, throughout the fall, winter and early spring. Major industries include forestry, government service, construction and trade.

There is one elementary school and one senior secondary school in McBride. The community is only a 45-minute drive from Mount Robson, 1.5 hours from Jasper and the Alberta border, and just two hours from Prince George. McBride itself is small enough that everything is within easy walking distance.

McBride is a great home base from which to explore the surrounding area’s many provincial parks. The area’s varied terrain provides opportunities for:
