Role and Facility Information

Join a diverse group of Specialists and Family Practitioners in Terrace - a teaching site for UBC Medicine, three Primary Care clinics, outstanding specialists support and services. We are looking for Internal Medicine Specialist to join 5 other IM Specialists and provide services at the Mills Memorial Hospital with 1:5 to 1:6 on call for the hospital facility and the ICU. This is a permanent opportunity, but we are open to locum candidates or locum to permanent arrangement.

Terrace - a traditional Tsimshian territory - is a vibrant, entrepreneurial and friendly community with immediate medical catchment area of 51,000 and regional of 90,000. A regional service and supply center hub for the Northwest, Terrace also experiences tremendous economic, regional, and social growth as a result of projects such as: LNG Canada (Liquefied Natural Gas) out of nearby Kitimat, bran new over $640 million dollars hospital, inland port development, natural gas pipelines, new housing projects, manufacturing and mining projects. With a busy airport just 15 minutes away from downtown, with multiple daily flights to Vancouver, Prince George, and Calgary, living here allows for easy national and international connections.

About the outdoors: surround yourself by the stunning coastal mountain range and lush ancient rainforest just minutes away from the Pacific Ocean. Enjoy the mild winters, back and cross country skiing, heli-skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, indoor and outdoor skating, ice-fishing and an evening soak in the local hot springs. In the summer, go golfing, hiking, mountain biking, camping, rock climbing, canoeing, kayaking and swimming in the pristine lakes and of course, the world-class Salmon fishing. Keep an eye out for a rare white Kermode or “spirit” bear. In the evening, relax in one of the many pubs, restaurants or the local brewery, or go dancing and see local musicians perform, or maybe attend one of the art, musical or comedian shows. Go local and shop at the Northwest biggest farmer’s market.

The brand new, state of the art Mills Memorial Hospital is under construction. With double the current size (78 beds) and a level three Trauma Unit, the new hospital is expected to be completed in 2024. Mills Memorial Hospital will be an acute care hospital and integrated services facility, and a centre for trauma services, orthopedic surgeries, pathology, radiology, clinical support, and pharmacy services.
Increased size, services and staff:
- 25-41 medical/surgical beds
- 10-20 psychiatric unit beds
- 3 to 8 intense care unit beds
- 3-5 maternity/gynecology unit beds
- 3-4 labour room beds

Emergency treatment spaces are increasing from 10 to 20 and operating rooms increasing from 3 to 4. Other services currently provided at the hospital are:
- Oncology
– SPECT/CT. Dialysis
- Bone Marrow Biopsy Program
- Bronchoscopy
- Diagnostic and Specialist Centre
- MRI/CT
- Nuclear Medicine
