Role and Facility Information

Northern Health is seeking a family practitioner for full-time position in beautiful Fraser Lake, BC. There is flexibility to decrease the FTE to 0.5 FTE or a portion thereof. The estimated start date is July 1, 2024, however an earlier start date may be arranged. The Health Centre is comprised of a collegial team of health care professionals, including family physicians, nurse practitioner and nursing staff. The team provides Primary Care as well as some daytime ER care 1-2 times/week depending on staffing levels.

There are both acute and chronic disease management with a focus on preventative primary care. There is opportunity for outreach work in First Nation communities as well as emergency shifts in the neighbouring community of Vanderhoof (40 minutes away). There are well established connections to the medical communities in Vanderhoof and Prince George (1 hr, 40 min) to facilitate surgical and in hospital care for Fraser Lake and area patients. Locum coverage is through the Rural GP Locum Program.

The community of Fraser Lake is known as the White Swan Capital of the World for the hundreds of migrating trumpeter swans that winter there each November. With a superb view of the surrounding lakes and rivers from the top of Mouse Mountain, the area’s most prominent landmark, you are sure to be enchanted with the Village of Fraser Lake. The main industries are mining and forestry. Fraser Lake has one elementary school and one combined elementary/secondary school.

With over 170 lakes within a 50 mile radius, Fraser Lake is a playground of water and natural wonderland. Besides fishing for trout or char in the Fraser and Francois Lakes, or the Nautley or Stellako River, you can also enjoy:

Signing incentives are $20,000 for 1.0 FTE and prorated for anything less than full-time.

Fraser Lake

Fraser Lake is fondly called the "Swan Capital of the World" for the hundreds of trumpeter swans which migrate there each November. It is a playground for outdoor activities, from windsurfing and water-skiing to biking and cross-country skiing. Hiking trails begin right at the community's doorstep, and cabins and resorts on the surrounding lakes draw many to enjoy its beautiful scenery, nature and beaches.
