Role and Facility Information

The University Hospital of Northern British Columbia (UHNBC) is seeking a full time Urologist to provide regional services to Northern BC. We are currently recruiting a full-time staff position (1.0 FTE). The successful applicant will work with the current urology division members in providing comprehensive urologic care to the community, with a referral base within the Northern Health Authority of British Columbia (approx. population of catchment is 350,000-400,000). On-call commitment includes extended regional coverage within the Northern Health Authority. There is also the opportunity to provide regional care through visiting specialists clinics in outlying communities within the health authority.

Hospital resources, including OR, cystoscopy, and ambulatory care time will be distributed equitably among ALL attending urologists in the group. There are currently two FTE urologists based at UHNBC, with a third FTE joining the division in July, 2026. We are seeking a fourth and fifth FTE to join our division.

Scope of practice: general community urology practice excluding transplantation. Minor pediatric surgery, oncologic procedures excluding partial nephrectomies/retroperitoneal node dissections, caval thrombectomies or PCNLs.

Urology colleagues assist with major oncology procedures and fellow surgical members include plastics, general and vascular surgery, orthopedics and OB/Gyn.

With forestry as the major industry, residents enjoy affordable housing, above-average incomes, and a wide range of services and amenities including four provincial parks in the region, 11,600 lakes and streams within one hour of the city, 20 parks/playgrounds in the city limits, eighteen outdoor and six indoor soccer fields, seven ice rinks, two aquatic facilities (one deemed world class), 24 tennis courts, downhill and cross country ski facilities, an 11 kilometer riverfront trail system, six golf courses, a 7,000 seat multipurpose arena, a civic/convention center, 800 seat Vanier Hall, symphony, playhouse, theatre workshop, art gallery, craft guild, Western Hockley League team and a BC Junior Hockey League team.
