Specialty Internal Medicine

Subspecialty Rheumatology

Role and Facility Information

We are recruiting a full-time rheumatologist to join two other rheumatologists serving Prince George and the rest of Northern BC. The successful candidate would have an outpatient practice and accept referrals from all over the Northern British Columbia. Opportunities for outreach to outlying communities are also available. There is no rheumatology on-call service, but there may be requests for occasional rheumatology consultations for patients admitted to hospital for which call back fees can be billed.

All physicians within the Department of Medicine at University Hospital of Northern British Columbia (UHNBC) are required to hold hospital privileges and participate in the shared internal medicine call rotation, which averages 1 in 7. This call schedule is typically flexible and easily adjustable among colleagues.

UHNBC is equipped with a closed-unit Intensive Care Unit (ICU) operated by fellowship-trained intensivists, providing care to all patients requiring non-invasive positive pressure ventilation (NIPPV) or vasopressor support. In addition, plans are underway to establish a closed-unit Cardiac Care Unit (CCU) to manage high-acuity cardiac patients.

UHNBC is the Regional Hospital for Northern BC serving the population of Prince George (approx.. 87,000) and is a referral center for outlying communities (total population approx.. 400,000). It is the main teaching center for Medical Students in the Northern Medical Program of UBC and provides teaching for UBC Residents in several specialties. The BC Cancer Centre for the North is located on the hospital site and includes radiation and medical oncology. The ongoing development
of UHNBC as a regional center and teaching center makes this an exciting time to join the medical community in Prince George.

Prince George is the centre of business, education, health and culture for northern BC, servicing an approx. rural population of 400,000 over an area of 600,000 square kilometers. Affordable housing, short commutes, a vibrant arts & culture community, and outstanding recreational opportunities make Prince George a desirable community to call home. A paradise for outdoor recreation; mountain biking, hiking, kayaking in the summer, and 41 ft. of powder in the winter are just a few of the options for adventure seekers!

If rewarding professional opportunities and outstanding lifestyle are your priority, we look forward to hearing from you soon!
