Specialty Internal Medicine

Subspecialty General Internal Medicine

Role and Facility Information

The Department of Medicine is seeking qualified family physicians to join our General Internal Medicine Clinical Associate program. Part-time opportunities are available, including locum positions.

Clinical associates on the GIM service work as part of a team including a general internist (who is MRP), a clinical pharmacist and occasionally medical students and residents. The GIM service is one of two inpatient services which admit complex medical patients to the hospital on alternating nights. Patients admitted to the GIM service are generally multi-system, complex medical patients and we are supported by a strong family practice program.

Clinical associates manage most of the day-to-day operations on the GIM ward and responsibilities include daily patient care, documenting progress notes, discharge summaries etc, performing procedures such as thoracentesis, paracentesis, lumbar puncture etc. depending on individual experience and comfort level. A general internist supervises the team and assists with all aspects of patient care.

Applicants should have a strong interest in acute-care inpatient medicine. Hospitalist experience would be an asset but not required. Licensure or eligibility for licensure with the CPSBC is mandatory as well as ACLS. Procedural skills are an asset, but these skills can be developed with us.

Hours are generally 0800-1600h Monday to Friday with occasional weekend rounding required but no more than 1 in 4. No evenings or overnight call required at this time. Payment is by Sessional contract (approx $300k/yr). Locum opportunities exist for a minimum commitment of 1 week.

Estimated Yearly Remuneration : $139,000 –$152,000*. During the 12 week Evaluation Period the salary is $88,990.
