Role and Facility Information

Northern Health is seeking a full-time Dermatologist to provide regional services to Northern BC. The position is based in Prince George (population approx 80,000) with referrals coming from surrounding communities serving a population of approx. 400,000. There are opportunities for outreach clinics to communities within Northern Health.

Prince George offers a supportive and welcoming medical community with support from plastic surgery, general surgery, medical oncology, and radiation oncology available locally. Currently there is one board certified Dermatologist practicing within Northern Health, with an outpatient practice in Prince George. There is an outpatient NB-UVB phototherapy booth in Prince George, and hospital based phototherapy units in the communities of Prince Rupert and Terrace. Augment your clinical practice with teaching opportunities through the UBC Northern Medical Program as a faculty member with the UBC Department of Dermatology and Skin Science. Stay connected with BC’s dermatologists with weekly virtual Grand Rounds from UBC in Vancouver, where challenging patient cases can be submitted for review and discussion.

The successful candidate will join the Department of Medicine at the University Hospital of Northern BC, a dynamic team of 20+ physicians including: General Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Nephrology, Infectious Diseases, Respirology, Neurology, Rheumatology, and Endocrinology. There are no on-call requirements for Dermatology. While the majority of patients will be seen in an outpatient setting there is an opportunity to see hospital consults. Adjacent to the hospital, the new BC Cancer Centre provides residents of Northern BC increased access to cancer treatment and services closer to home. Candidate would be responsible for running their own private practice and Current dermatologist(s) Would share referrals to help establish practice

As the regional tertiary care center for Northern BC, UHNBC serves a vast geographical area, providing specialized and advanced medical services. UHNBC is 280 bed hospital, Level 3 Trauma Center, affiliated with the UBC Northern Medical Program, the UBC Family Medicine Residency Program and other associated healthcare training programs.

Known as British Columbia’s northern capital (the 4th largest in British Columbia) Prince George is located at the approximate geographic center of the province where the Nechako and Fraser Rivers meet. With forestry as the major industry, residents enjoy affordable housing, above-average incomes, and a wide range of services and amenities including four provincial parks in the region, 11,600 lakes and streams within one hour of the city, 20 parks/playgrounds in the city limits, eighteen outdoor and six indoor soccer fields, seven ice rinks, two aquatic facilities (one deemed world class), 24 tennis courts, downhill and cross country ski facilities, an 11 kilometer riverfront trail system, six golf courses, a 7,000 seat multipurpose arena, a civic/convention center, 800 seat Vanier Hall, symphony, playhouse, theatre workshop, art gallery, craft guild, Western Hockey League team and a BC Junior Hockey League team.
