Role and Facility Information

The Division of General Internal Medicine, Department of Medicine at Surrey Memorial Hospital (SMH) is seeking 15 full-time General Internists to join their team! Because of Hospital expansion, the General Internal Medicine service is growing and will include the following:

- 24 / 7 Hospital and ER Consultation service

- 70 Inpatient Internal Medicine Beds

- Robust perioperative medicine service

- Clinical teaching for UBC trainees of all levels

- Outpatient Rapid Access Internal Medicine, Hypertension, Pre-operative medicine and Thrombosis Clinics

The successful candidate should have strong interest in Inpatient and Ambulatory Care with an emphasis on perioperative medicine, hypertension, patient safety, quality or medical education. Equal preference will be given to those who have completed either a four-year or five-year residency, and those who have previously worked at SMH in a locum capacity. Responsibilities will include a combination of clinical care, teaching, and quality improvement with the mix of responsibilities depending on the successful candidate’s background and job profile.

Competitive candidates will possess outstanding clinical, communication, teaching, and interpersonal skills that enable them to work collaboratively with other physicians, learners, hospital staff and administrators. Applicants must be certified (or eligible for certification) by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and must be licensed (or eligible for licensure) in the Province of British Columbia. The successful candidate must hold MD qualifications. Applicants with advanced methodological training (Master’s Degree, Doctoral Degree or equivalent) may be preferred.

You will be joining a group of collaborative general internists with a variety of interests and expertise, including critical care, hypertension, healthcare administration, thrombosis and teaching. We have a robust schedule of educational rounds and Morbidity and Mortality rounds. We are actively involved in teaching with the UBC undergraduate and postgraduate program. There are separate ICU and Cardiology programs and internists are not expected to care for these patients.

Compensation is a combination of fee for service and alternate payment.

The successful candidate must meet the following qualifications:

- Hold an FRCPC registration

- Must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians & Surgeons of BC- Full or Provisional.

- CPSBC USA certified registration is acceptable
