Surrey Memorial Hospital and academic campus is a Tertiary Referral Centre and primary hospital for one of the fastest growing communities in BC. It is the second largest hospital in the province with the province’s busiest Emergency Department, with approximately 650 beds across the site. Surrey Memorial has a Level I ICU, highly specialized Cardiology services, the region’s only closed stroke unit, Palliative Care Unit, and is a specialized surgical centre. In the coming months and years, Surrey Memorial will also be the home site for the Fraser Health track of the UBC Internal Medicine Residency program and a number of Fellowship programs.
At present the two General Internal Medicine Units collectively make up 30 funded beds, with ongoing expansion efforts. Each ward is geographically cohorted with dedicated allied health, pharmacist and PCC. We look after acutely ill medical patients with common chronic medical issues, who require specialized inpatient Internal Medicine. There are 2 Royal College certified Internal Medicine attending Physicians on each week for each ward, with an additional acute ward and emergency consultant, as well as night call.
