Role and Facility Information

Surrey Memorial Hospital (SMH) is seeking applications from Respirology physicians to join its multidisciplinary team, providing both inpatient and outpatient Respiratory Medicine services.

About SMH:
Located in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia, SMH is a 600+ bed community and academic hospital, serving a population of over 500,000 as a tertiary referral center.

Division Highlights:

The Respirology division comprises eight full-time members and several part-time members.
Outpatient services include private clinics and hospital-affiliated subspecialty clinics for airways disease, rapid access, and interstitial lung disease (ILD).
Facilities include a full pulmonary function lab, cardiopulmonary exercise testing, bronchoscopy, EBUS, and indwelling pleural catheter insertion, with ambulatory daycare support.
Direct access is available to the Fraser Health Authority (FHA) sleep lab and regional thoracic surgery services.
SMH is affiliated with the Fraser Valley Cancer Center.
Inpatient services provide consultative respiratory care without Most Responsible Physician (MRP) duties.

Academic Affiliation:
SMH partners with the University of British Columbia's medical school and postgraduate training programs. Additionally, planning for a new medical school within the FHA is underway.




The ideal candidates will meet the following criteria:

Fellowship in Respirology from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
Eligibility for independent licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia.
Canadian citizenship.

Preferred Skills and Attributes:

Subspecialty training in Respirology following fellowship completion.
A demonstrated interest in teaching medical students and residents.
Research experience or interest.
Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills, with a commitment to service excellence.
