Role and Facility Information

Surrey Memorial Hospital (SMH) is seeking a full-time Orthopedic Surgeon with an Adult Spine subspecialty. The successful candidate must also be comfortable with general orthopedics as they will participate in the general orthopedic call roster (1:9), covering for adult and pediatric patient populations.

This person will join a group of 8 full-time orthopedic surgeons, including one orthopedic spine surgeon, and others covering most other orthopedic subspecialties. The operating room is equipped with a Spinal Navigation System (including Ziehm intra-op 3D imaging). Training and experience with MIS techniques would be an asset, but not a requirement. Fellowship in adult spine surgery is requested.

SMH is a tertiary teaching Hospital and Level III trauma center with a very busy Emergency Department. It is affiliated with the University of British Columbia (UBC) Department of Orthopedics.

The successful applicant will: 

- perform spine and general orthopedic surgery
- participate in the SMH general orthopedic on-call schedule
- run a full-time spine elective practice including C-T-L spine pathologies
- demonstrate excellent knowledge, judgement, and technical competence in providing spinal and general orthopedic care
- have exemplary communication and interpersonal skills with colleagues and allied health care staff 
- work collaboratively within the hospital environment
- participate in the clinical teaching of medical students and Family Medicine Residents
- apply for a Clinical Faculty appointment at UBC
