The Langley Memorial Hospital (LMH) Department of Medicine is actively recruiting a General Internist. LMH is a community hospital in Langley, a suburban municipality within the Greater Vancouver area. The hospital supports a rapidly growing population of approximately 140 000 people. Langley City and Township boasts affordable housing with close access to many outdoor activities and the amenities of downtown Vancouver.
Langley Memorial Hospital is a community hospital with 192 acute beds offering specialists in medicine, surgery, obstetrics, pediatrics, and psychiatry. We have a new Emergency department. Within our hospital, we have an excellent Hospitalist group and small but dedicated number of community GPs still actively providing care for their patients in the hospital setting. The General Internists are responsible for several outpatient clinics including: Chest Pain clinic, Pacemaker Clinic, IV Therapy clinic, CHF clinic and IM Rapid Access Clinic.
The successful candidate will be part of the General Internal Medicine group practice. IM covers consults as General IM, including most of the specialties, and ICU; we have 6 ICU beds with a maximum capacity of 2 vents at a time. We have 3 CCU beds and a 10 bed telemetry unit. We have a IMU of 15 patients. On call is MOCAP level I. We have Rounding Doctor of the week who covers rounding ICU/CCU/Telemetry and accepting new consults from 8:30 am till 5:00 PM and another IM specialist covering overnight call from 5:00 pm till 8:30 am. Currently it is 1:8 rotation of the Doctor of the week and approximately 3 to 4 overnight on call coverage nights per month. The successful candidate is expected to establish an outpatient clinic in the community for consults and follow ups with in 6 months of accepting the job.
The candidate must have passed the Royal College Examination in Internal Medicine and must demonstrate evidence of sufficient clinical experience in all areas of General Medicine. The candidate must be able to manage a community ICU with ability to perform intubation, central line insertion, transvenous pacemakers etc. Experience and demonstrated skills in point-of-care ultrasound, leadership, medical administration, quality improvement and teaching will be considered an asset.
He/she will be expected to participate in Journal Clubs, M and M Rounds, Grand Rounds and other academic endeavours.
The position is scheduled to start as soon as possible.
At least one Reference letter from the Intensivist you worked with is advised.
