Role and Facility Information

Northern Health is seeking a Family Physician for 0.5 FTE in Masset on beautiful Haida Gwaii! This is a shared practice model and the expected schedule is 4 weeks on/4 weeks off.

Along with clinic work, family physicians work in the Emergency room and cover Hospital in-patients. Call is 24 hours, with the following morning allocated to walk-in appointments and the afternoon off for post call. Weekend call is from Saturday morning to Monday morning with the rest of Monday booked off. The ER is low volume but frequently challenging given the remote location.

Masset is situated along the shoreline of Masset Sound on Haida Gwaii, formerly known as the Queen Charlotte Islands, and is the largest village on the island. Major industries are logging, fishing and tourism. Masset provides services for a larger rural area with a population near 2,300 including Tow Hill (unincorporated) and Old Masset (IR). Incorporated in 1961, the Village of Masset (pop. 1,000) is the oldest of the islands municipalities.

The Northern Haida Gwaii Hospital is an eight bed facility (four acute and four long-term care) with Emergency. Services provided are:

People from all over the world visit Masset to enjoy the areas of pristine beauty, rich sports including surfing, kite boarding, fishing and unique culture. As well, Masset is known for its endless hiking trails, magnificent beaches and exceptional birdwatching opportunities. World renowned artists hail from Masset and can be found at studios around the village and at our close neighbor, the Haida community of Old Masset.
