Facility: Penticton Regional Hospital

The Penticton Regional Hospital (PRH) is a 158-bed Acute Care facility in the Okanagan Health Service Area and responsible for providing core medical and surgical specialty services to surrounding population of approximately 90,000 people.

PRH offers 24-hour Emergency and Trauma Services, Acute Services, Ambulatory and Out-patient Clinics, and Diagnostic/Paramedical Services.

As a regional facility and secondary referral centre for the South Okanagan and Similkameen Valley, you will be joining an excellent complement of medical and surgical specialists. Excellent radiology availability with on site Computed Tomography (CT) and part time Medical Resonance Imaging (MRI). PRH has a seven-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

PRH also serves as the referral base for hematology/transfusion medicine for the smaller local hospitals in Oliver and Princeton.

In April 2019 PRH opened phase one of the David E. Kampe Tower (DKT), a new, state of the art Patient Care Tower. DKT includes a brand new ambulatory care centre, surgical services center, new OR's,84 medical/surgical inpatients beds in single patient rooms, a new medical device reprocessing unit and space for the UBC Faculty of Medicine Program. Phase two was completed in December 2021 and included renovations in the current hospital to allow the expansion of the emergency department four times its current size

The Penticton Regional Hospital’s Department of Anesthesia is seeking an engaged team player and confident generalist who is confident in regional anesthesia techniques to join our group of 10 dedicated Anesthesiologists who make an amicable team with 23 surgeons. We provide OR services for urology, ENT, general surgery, orthopedics, OB/GYN, and uncomplicated pediatric cases over 2 years. We have a robust peri-operative consult service and ERACS program for colo-rectal and direct anterior hip replacement. We assist with airway needs in the ICU and Emergency department and provide full pre-op services and out- of -OR consultation for the emergency adult list and labour/delivery. Additionally, there are 2 ORs at the Summerland Health Centre where we provide services including pediatric dental, ENT and ophthalmology services. Candidates with strong pediatric skills would be an asset.

There are opportunities for teaching medical students and residents. Research can be supported if interested. There is a monthly CME program and quarterly Grand Rounds (supported by the Medical Staff Association).

Hours of work: ~ 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. (two late stay shifts per month to 5pm)

On-call: ~ 1 weekend per month (plus 2-3 weekdays)
